A Children's Range, Without Child Talent

Product-led creative for a category with the strictest rules in advertising.

A Children's Range, Without Child Talent

This is a spec scenario, built to show how Unreal Media Group approaches this brief. It is not a client engagement, and no results are claimed. Advertising to and around children is the most tightly regulated area in the discipline, and it is also where using child talent brings the heaviest safeguarding and licensing obligations. The brief was to produce a full range set without either problem.

What's included

  • No child talent used
  • Addressed to the parent as buyer
  • No direct exhortation to children
  • Age grading represented accurately
  • Stills for packaging and retail

The brief we set

A product film for each item in a children's range, aimed at the parent as buyer, with the product and its use as the subject.

No child talent, no likeness question

Removing child performers removes a safeguarding process, a licensing burden and a consent question that follows a campaign for years. It also removes the temptation to use a child's reaction as a proof of claim.

Speaking to the parent

The creative addresses the buyer, not the child. It does not use direct exhortation to a child audience, and it does not present the product as conferring status among peers.

Safety and age accuracy

Age grading, safety information and use are represented as the brand specifies them. Depicting a product being used outside its age range is both a compliance problem and a genuine hazard.

What ships

A film per product, vertical and square crops, and stills for packaging, PDP and retailer listings.

Frequently asked questions

Was this made for a real client?+

No. This is spec work — a brief we set ourselves to demonstrate the approach and the production model. The frames are ours. No client is named because there isn't one, and no performance figure is quoted because there is nothing to quote.

Why avoid child performers entirely?+

Because the safeguarding, licensing and long-term consent obligations are real, and because a child's reaction on camera is often used as evidence for a claim the product cannot support. Product-led creative avoids both.

What would this cost to make?+

It depends on deliverable count, usage rights, revision rounds and turnaround. Scope is agreed in writing before anything is produced, as a defined batch of work rather than a recurring fee.
